Cultural Diplomacy and International Relations

The MA Program in Cultural Diplomacy and International Relations is a two-year accredited programme offered by the Faculty of European Studies (Babeș-Bolyai University).

The programme provides a comprehensive curriculum and practice in International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy, using a historical and case-study approach in the framework of international relations theory and political science. The MA focuses on several academic disciplines related to International Relations and Global Politics, with particular emphasis on Cultural Diplomacy and its historical and contemporary application in the public sector, private sector and civil society.

The programme addresses contemporary international issues, with classroom seminars and lectures, as well as educational & cultural events, conferences, professional trainings, tours, visits and meetings with foreign officials, which are incorporated into the curriculum.

Students

Students will meet with leading experts working in international organizations, embassies and academic institutions, and will engage with specialists in the areas of International Relations & Economics, Business, Communication, Politics, Human Rights, Culture, Peace Building, Multilateral Diplomacy, Conflict Resolution, and Sustainable Development.

The programme – the most internationalised at Faculty level – provides students with practical experience for both academic and professional development, preparing them for careers in various fields, such as international relations, the humanities, politics, and culture, foreign policy and international economics. On a practical level, our international partners provide students with a unique opportunity to interact with leading experts and academics at a wide variety of international organizations and research centers.

It allows students to create a solid professional network and form a concrete base for future academic and professional career choices, preparing them for engagement in the international arena, civil society, politics, governmental organizations and international economic organizations, as well as the private sector.

An Erasmus Plus network of 120 universities provides our MA students with numerous opportunities for studying one semester or even one year abroad!

Every year, some of the students can choose to participate in an Erasmus Mundus Programme within this MA, in a European consortium, including the University of Saint-Etienne, Federico II University of Naples and the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar. The students participating in the quadruple degree programme (DYCLAM+) have a unique opportunity to follow a comprehensive curriculum, by taking one semester in each of the partner universities.

ADMISSION INFORMATION

No. of non-paying places: 16

No. of paying places: 34 (tuition fee: 3600 RON/year)

Admission criterion: an online interview in English (July 2023) – open discussion on motivation, studies, language skills and career prospects (100% of the final admission grade). Since the MA is multidisciplinary, applicants are not expected to have graduated from a BA programme in a specific area.

CAREERS

The purpose of our MA is to promote a set of specific skills that are suitable for a variety of career choices: communication and negotiation, critical thinking, academic writing, research methodology, intercultural adaptability, project management, advanced problem-solving, analysis of international relations, policy-making and leadership. A comprehensive practice programme is provided so as to strengthen the students’ liaisons with the labour market. Every year, an average of 15 international students from a variety of countries join us, which makes up the exceptionally enriching multicultural environment that defines our programme!
